Back in the early 1960’s Carleton's founder, Joseph Carleton Pitts, was an aeronautical engineer at Bendix Corporation in Indiana. He used his “number crunching” hobby to help solve yield returns on investments. In fact, his hobby of financial analysis resulted in a series of well-received articles in the Kiplinger's personal finance magazine, Changing Times.    His growing relationship with the Kiplinger group earned Joe an invitation from the Federal Reserve Board in 1967 to serve on the sub-committee that defined the new Truth in Lending Regulation Z which standardized the financial disclosure presented with all consumer loans in the United States.    As a result of the new disclosure requirements which required disclosing an Annual Percentage Rate (APR), Joe started publishing lending rate charts that displayed the APR under the name of "Carleton Financial Computations" (now Carleton, Inc.).   The Associates, the largest national lender located in South Bend, IN was Carleton's first rate chart client. The Associates paved the way to serving most of the major finance companies in the US including GMAC, Ford Motor Credit, Chrysler Credit, AVCO, Transamerica, Beneficial, and many others!   Over the last 50+ years, Carleton has continued to build on the foundation that Joe established.
