Hana Yori is my granny's favorite resturant in South Bend so we took her for her birthday. The place only takes reservations which could be a little annoying if you're just wanting to pop in (this happened to my mom and I before). We were seated after about 5 minutes and our server was very nice, but we had a vegetarian with us and she wasn't sure if the soup was made with meat stock or not.
I got the chicken and shrimp hibachi which comes with soup and salad...they serve this egg sauce instead of yum yum sauce and I'm a yum yum sauce eater, but the egg sauce is pretty good. I absolutely loved the spicy honey mustard sauce I could drink it, that's how good it was lol. Our chef was absolutely hilarious and my granny really enjoyed herself.
My mom and I both had a Mai Thai's and plum wine we really enjoyed the wine a lot!
This place could benefit from yo remodeling, but it's a decent hibachi spot!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ally P.Niles, MI1288899May 17, 2023
Food: always good
Ambiance: they need to invest some money to spruce it up and get exhaust fans that actually exhaust without the loud noise and the lack of smoke filtering
Service: hit or miss. Some of the chefs are amazing and personable and fun. Others are just going through the motions.
A classic in Mishawaka, and one I've been going to for years.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aidan W.IN, IN02Feb 17, 2024
One of the best restaurants in town! Awesome employees and chefs that cook in front of you. The food is delicious, but I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who has allergies. It definitely has healthy choices like salads and vegetables. If you have sensitive individuals or children who is scared of fire, just be warned. Overall, I will highly recommend it to almost everyone who is planning on dinner, reservations are required though. It can be pricey but it is worth it!

We love this restaurant and come for the food and atmosphere. We celebrate birthdays anniversaries here. The staff is always polite and swift in attending anything you might want. I especially like the eggs sauce and put in on everything. All the servings are generous and tasty.

Local staple forever! Went last night and it was great! The atmosphere is very cozy and the food and show just make the night! The fried rice and veggies are of plenty on your plate the the meat servings are large as well!!

For us, Hana Yori is about a once a year visit. Not that it is bad. It's rich and heavy eats. Very, very good eats.
We always try to go with a group and this go round was six of us, our grandson (6) included. Shrimp with the absolutely divine egg yolk sauce is alway a welcome start to the teppanyaki feast, after the salad and miso soup. The ginger dressing on the salad was spot on as usual.
Our chef was a fantastic entertainer and very skilled as a chef. Onion volcano never gets old. When the chef was flipping the eggs on the spatula, my grandson said he loves eggs. So the chef fried him and egg of his own!
Large portions of veggies, fried rice and your proteins. I say spend the extra cash to get the filet, it is that much better than the other steak offered (which isn't bad at all).
The only real knock I can give is maybe to update or install stronger hoods. At times you are just sitting in the smoke and steam cloud.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Jennifer S.IN, IN88Jul 30, 2023
Sadly I have to say this restaurant has simply gone down hill. It's dirty, lacked maintenance, bar is closed, no sushi, horrible service, employees with a clear attitude issue. Incorrect food orders, incorrect charges and the food had zero taste

Hana Yori is a staple on my list of places to visit during my trips to the South Bend/Mishawaka area. The food is always good, especially the egg yolk sauce, but the service can be hit or miss at times. Overall, the food is consistently good, but the service and food quantity are changing.

This place is great! I've written off hibachi since I had it once and i thought it was awful. My boyfriend though- loves it and we had recently went on vacation where they had hibachi and surprise surprise, I loved it there and he said that place was just a-ok. What does he compare it to? He compares it to Hana Yori! Since we were in town I was craving Asian food like I always am and I suggested we get some hibachi. We stopped by for lunch today and our server was very nice. He even did a card trick for the family with the kid who we shared a table with. We both ordered the chicken hibachi but the filet mignon and shrimp look pretty tasty so maybe I'll get that next time. You don't get less of anything just because you order two types of protein. The dad of the family we sat with got 3 proteins and somehow managed to eat it all!
The show was amazing and the chef is so polite. Pretty hilarious too. The food was great- chicken was not dry at all! The rice was full of flavor. Skip the ginger and mustard sauce but when he asks if you want the egg yolk sauce definitely say yes !!! It's probably awful for you but it was very yummy. ( pretty sure its like a butter/mayo/ egg yolk mixture of some sort..) also, I read from a previous reviewer that the food was salty and I was very hesitant when I read that but my food was the perfect amount of salty and TRUST ME- I hate salt!!! I assume it depends on who your chef is.
I can't wait to come back again! Lunch is definitely cheaper as usual if you are on a tight budget like us :)Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
